A RESOLUTION OF THE _______________ ASSOCIATION  PROPOSING FEDERAL STIMULUS FUNDING FOR THE  CONSTRUCTION AND STAFFING OF TEN NEW MILITARY HOSPITALS


WHEREAS, the US Department of Defense reports as of 10 January 2009 that the War on Terror
casualties for Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom) total 626 deaths; 2,627 wounded in action; and 7,492 non-hostile injuries and diseases/other medical; requiring medical air transport, and

WHEREAS, the US Department of Defense reports as of 10 January 2009 that the War on Terror
casualties for Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom) total 4,212 deaths; 30,934 wounded in action; and
35,470 non-hostile injuries and diseases/other medical; requiring medical air transport, and

WHEREAS, the US Department of Defense statistics as of 10 January 2009 show that the combined  totals of casualties in each category for the above two operations are deaths; 4,838 wounded in action, 33,561; and 42,962 non-hostile injuries and diseases/other medical; requiring medical air transport, and

WHEREAS, the grand total of casualties, all categories, both operations, number 81,361, and

WHEREAS, at a SENATE COMM ITTEE ON VETERANS' AFFAIRS on October 17, 2007,
Colonel Steve Strobridge, USAF (Ret), Director, Governmental Relations, MOAA, stated in the Executive Summary: "Urgency of Joint Congressional Action and Oversight. Military and VA systems have been caught unprepared for the large wave of wounded and traumatized veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, and these veterans needs will only grow in the future;"  and

WHEREAS, the US Congress is now preparing to release an additional $350 Billion[subject to change] in stimulus monies to jump start our sluggish economy with new construction and additional jobs, NOW THEREFORE;

BE IT RESOLVED; that the ______Chapter, respectfully requests that National Headquarters, whose members number XXX,XXX active duty and retired personnel of the seven uniformed services, take action now and petition the US Secretary of Defense to initiate a request for Federal economic stimulus money to pay for the construction and staffing of ten new military hospitals (ARMY, NAVY, AND AIR FORCE) outside the greater Washington, DC area at the earliest possible time, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that the __________Chapter, encourages it's National Headquarters, as a member of the ________COALITION and all military and veterans organizations, numbering millions in membership, to remain vigilant and energetic in sustaining efforts to achieve the purposes of this Resolution. The ______Chapter further requests, through National Headquarters, that the White House, US Department of Defense and the US Congress pledge that they will never again send America's men and women into combat when our Army, Navy and Air Force hospitals are unprepared to provide adequate medical support because of imprudent base closures and force downsizings.
