| MacDill AFB: ?Health Hazard Warning?
by Robert F. Sawallesh 22 January 2010 http://www.pentagonmaverick.com/ On Thursday, 21 January 2010, I was at MacDill AFB about 1430 hours. I drove by the old hospital which was being demolished by an Alabama company and a sudden gust of wind, blowing south to north, blew demolition dust so thick that you could not see the buildings being demolished. No doubt the dust was being blown on to Eagle Park which is a children's park and located next to the demolition property. Across from Eagle Park are brand new VIP homes of which some are still under construction I looked at some signs on the construction site fence and here is what the signs read: "DANGER, ASBESTOS, CANCER AND LUNG DISEASE HAZARD, AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY, RESPIRATORS AND PROTECTIVE CLOTHING ARE REQUIRED IN THIS AREA." It looked like the construction company was using a home garden hose to wet down the dust. The Wing Commander's Hot Line was not working so I called a key person on base regarding the demolition dust. Also, the digital sign off base that is suppose to warn people that there is no Emergency Room on base is not working. There are of course law suits regarding asbestos. See http://www.weitzlux.com/asbestos-navy-veteran_1935204.html and http://www.asbestos.com/mesothelioma-lawyer/lawsuits.php. Also check out http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/asbestos.html and http://www.va-claim-help.com/. To the US and International community at MacDill AFB. Do you need to wear a mask when you drive by the old hospital? What about the former patients and the staff and volunteers who worked at the old MacDill hospital for years and years? Or what about the old buildings on military bases in the US and overseas? Asbestos infested? The old hospital now being demolished was replaced by a new hospital, ooops, I mean a new "Super Clinic." Scuttlebutt is that if you call the new "Super Clinic" a hospital, you will have to pay a $100 fine to the commander. Or maybe it is $1.00. |
